If Betsy had her way, every visitor to the cottage would be greeted with a freshly baked biscuit and a steaming mug of tea. Unfortunately, these cookies are far less exciting.
The cookies used on this website are simply tiny text files that help everything work as it should. They quietly remember helpful things, make the website easier to use and help us understand which pages visitors enjoy most.
They won't nibble your biscuits, read your letters or wander around your garden.

If you choose to become one of Betsy's pen pals, you'll be trusting the cottage with a few personal details. That trust means a great deal, and every effort is made to look after your information with the same care as every letter that leaves Railway View Cottage.

What information is collected?
If you join the Letter Club, complete a form on the website or get in touch, we may collect:
Your name
Your postal address (so Betsy knows where to send your letters)
Your email address
Your birthday (if you'd like to receive a birthday card)
Any information you choose to include in your message
You only need to provide the information necessary for us to send your letters or reply to your enquiry.
How is your information used?
Your details are only used to help Railway View Cottage Letters run smoothly.
This may include:
Sending your monthly letters
Sending your annual birthday card
Replying to your emails or messages
Contacting you about your Letter Club membership if needed
Your information will never be sold, rented or passed to marketing companies.
Betsy enjoys writing letters far more than sending unwanted emails.
Keeping your information safe
Your personal information is stored securely and is only accessible to those responsible for running Railway View Cottage Letters.
Reasonable steps are taken to protect your information from loss, misuse or unauthorised access.
Sharing your information
Your information is only shared when absolutely necessary. For example:
Royal Mail needs your address so your letters can find their way to your letterbox.
Secure payment providers process your subscription payments.
Website providers may securely process information needed for the website to function.
Your information is never sold or shared for advertising purposes.
How long is your information kept?
Your information is kept only for as long as it is needed to provide the Letter Club service or to meet any legal or accounting requirements.
If you ask to leave the Letter Club, we'll happily remove your details unless we're required by law to keep certain records.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
ask what information we hold about you
request a copy of your information
ask us to correct inaccurate information
request that your personal information is deleted where appropriate
withdraw your consent where consent has been given

Terms & Conditions
The slightly boring but important bit
I know. Terms and conditions aren’t nearly as exciting as finding a proper letter on the doormat, but it’s important that we both know how everything works.
By placing an order with Railway View Cottage Letters, you agree to the terms below.
What you’re buying
Railway View Cottage Letters offers three ways to receive post from Betsy:
Just One Letter, Please — £9
One monthly letter from Betsy, with a little something extra tucked inside.
Three Letters from Betsy — £24
Three consecutive monthly letters, sent separately over three months.
A Year of Letters — £75
Twelve consecutive monthly letters, sent separately over twelve months.
All prices include standard Second Class postage to UK addresses.
These are one-off purchases. There are no monthly payments and nothing automatically renews at the end. If you’d like Betsy to keep writing after your letters have finished, you’ll simply need to order again.
What arrives in your letterbox
The monthly letter is written by Betsy and shares the real happenings of the month just gone — ordinary life, gardens, travels, mishaps, people, places and whatever else has wandered into the story.
Each monthly letter is the same main letter sent to everyone receiving Betsy’s post that month. Although Betsy may address you by your preferred name and include certain personal touches such as a gift note or card, the main monthly letter is not individually written or personalised for each recipient.
The original letter is written first and then reproduced for everyone receiving that month’s post.
Occasionally, Betsy may tuck in something extra — perhaps a postcard, watercolour print or another little piece inspired by life at Railway View Cottage. Extras may vary and are not guaranteed with every monthly letter, unless specifically included in the description of the option you purchased.
Birthdays & Christmas
If the recipient’s birthday falls during the period in which they are receiving letters from Betsy, and you have provided their birthday details in time, Betsy will send a handwritten birthday card.
If their letters include the relevant Christmas mailing, Betsy may also send a Christmas card as part of the festive post.
There is no additional postage charge for these cards.
Please make sure birthday information is accurate — Betsy is many things, but sadly she is not psychic.
When letters are sent
Letters are normally posted during the first week of each month and generally tell the stories of the month just gone.
For example, July’s adventures will usually find their way into an envelope posted in early August.
If you order after that month’s mailing has already been prepared or sent, your first letter may begin with the following mailing. Where practical, Betsy will make it clear which letter your order will begin with.
Occasionally life, illness, holidays, postal disruption or other unforeseen circumstances may cause a delay. If there is likely to be a significant delay, I’ll do my best to let the person who placed the order know.
A little note about the post
All UK letters are sent by standard Royal Mail Second Class post unless otherwise stated.
Once an envelope disappears into the postbox, its journey is unfortunately in the hands of Royal Mail — and occasionally the postal fairies have ideas of their own.
Please allow a reasonable amount of time for delivery, particularly around Christmas, bank holidays or during postal disruption.
If a letter appears to have genuinely gone missing, please contact me and I’ll do my best to put things right.
Addresses & recipient details
Please check all names and postal addresses carefully when placing an order.
Railway View Cottage Letters cannot be responsible for letters that cannot be delivered because the postal address supplied was incorrect or incomplete.
If the recipient moves while receiving a three-letter or year-long package, please contact me as soon as possible with their new address so future letters don’t continue happily travelling to their old house.
Sending letters as a gift
All three options can be purchased for yourself or as a gift.
If you tell me that the letters are a gift and let me know who arranged them, I may tuck a small introductory note into the first envelope so the recipient knows who thought of them.
The person placing the order is responsible for making sure they have permission to provide the recipient’s name, postal address and any other personal information supplied.
Cancellations & refunds
I hope you’ll be delighted to have Betsy appearing on the doormat, but sometimes plans change.
Your right to change your mind
When you place an order online, you have statutory cancellation rights under UK consumer law, including an applicable 14-day cooling-off period.
If you change your mind during your statutory cancellation period, please let me know through the Cottage Postbox as soon as possible. Your cancellation and any refund due will be dealt with in accordance with your statutory rights.
If you would like your letters to begin before any applicable cancellation period has ended, please be aware that this may affect the amount that can be refunded if fulfilment has already begun.
After the statutory cancellation period
Railway View Cottage Letters are purchased as fixed, prepaid packages. You are buying either one letter, three consecutive monthly letters, or twelve consecutive monthly letters for one upfront price. There are no recurring payments and your package does not automatically renew.
Once any applicable statutory cancellation period has ended, a change of mind does not normally entitle you to a refund for letters remaining in your package.
If you no longer wish to receive your remaining letters, please contact me through the Cottage Postbox and I can stop future post. Choosing to stop receiving the remaining letters does not normally entitle you to a refund for the unused part of your prepaid package.
If something isn’t right
If Railway View Cottage Letters is unable to provide letters you have paid for, or there is a problem with your order, please get in touch. Depending on the circumstances, I will arrange an appropriate replacement, refund or other solution.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory consumer rights.
International post
The prices shown on the website include postage to UK addresses only.
If you’d like Betsy’s letters sent overseas, please contact me before ordering so I can confirm whether delivery is available and provide the additional postage cost.
International delivery times can vary considerably and may be affected by local postal services, customs or other delays outside my control.
Privacy
The personal information you provide is used only as needed to process your order, send the letters and cards you have requested, communicate with you about that order, and meet any legal or administrative requirements.

Betsy has no intention of cluttering up your email inbox. That would rather defeat the point of sending you proper post in the first place.

Betsy Newberry is the pen name used by the writer behind Railway View Cottage Letters.
The events written about in the letters are based on real life and genuinely happened, although names, identifying details and some place names may occasionally be changed to protect people’s privacy.
The watercolour-style illustrations used by Railway View Cottage Letters are AI-generated interpretations based on real photographs, places, objects and moments connected with the stories.
